The students of Bridgehampton High School organized a vigil for Orlando last week. As we all felt helpless, and useless, in the face of this tragedy, there was solace in gathering with friends and acquaintances to bear witness. Drivers honked their horns in solidarity as they drove by, while neighbors of all ages and faiths joined together in this solemn march up Main Street.
In my eyes, there are no higher virtues than tolerance and justice. A priest, a rabbi and a minister each shared their thoughts on these subjects with us, but I believe Cornel West said it best: “Never forget that love is what justice looks like in public.”
Amen, brother.
